Dash diet is getting more popular because more people are living with hypertension. It stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. That is why the methods and suggestions will always relate to the lower blood pressure. Basically, this diet is almost the same as other diet which controls the food consumption. But, it focuses more on the foods that contain no or less salt or sodium. The fruits, vegetables, grains, lean meats and either low-fat or non-fat dairy should be consumed in balance. Then, this kind of diet is higher in potassium, magnesium, calcium, protein and dietary fiber.

Although this kind of diet has been introduced about few decades ago, there are many people who think that dash diet is the way to decrease or eliminate salt intake altogether. Actually, this is not the case because hypertension happens due to imbalance of sodium, potassium and magnesium in the diet. Other people also think that hypertension is normally happened when someone grows older. The facts show that it may happen to anyone from various ages. So, it is allowed for people with no hypertension history to follow the dash diet steps to keep their health. It has to be done especially for overweight people. They have two to six times more risk of hypertension compared to a person of a normal weight. If dash diet is combined with regular exercises, the overall health condition is completely built.
